XF-HEVC is Canon's new recording format which uses H.265/HEVC in an MXF container. H.265 offers a newer encoding technology that is about 2x as efficient as mainstream H.264/AVC. By using XF-HEVC it means the XF705 is capable of recording high quality 4K UHD 50P 4:2:2 10-bit files directly to SD card. This means efficient 4K UHD data handling and lower media costs.
Canon’s first professional level camcorder with HEVC/H.265 recording in 4K or full HD using the XF-HEVC codec, the XF705 offers multiple formats including XF-AVC/H.264 and additional options with the latest firmware update. XF-HEVC recording in HDR (PQ or HLG), and Full HD at up to 100P (PAL or 120P NTSC) is available, and, for XF-AVC recording, 50i has also been added as a shooting option, as well as 4K UHD/3840 x 2160 25.00P recording. A further option is MP4 recording in full HD 50.00P and 25.00P.
