United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, 30ᵗʰ November 2020. Canon has announced that it has installed the LabelStream 4000 series digital label press at the market leading, full-service visual communications agency Oschatz Visuelle Medien GmbH & Co. KG, based in Niedernhausen, near Frankfurt/Main, Germany. By investing in Canon’s industrial-scale, UV inkjet digital label press, the company is looking to broaden its application offering and bring its label printing business in-house to achieve cost savings and improve on turnaround time.

The agility of the Canon LabelStream 4000 will enable Oschatz Visuelle Medien to meet increasingly tight deadlines and the increase in demand for short runs. Incorporating Canon’s UV inkjet technology, the Canon LabelStream can achieve an output speed of 1,845 m²/hr, at 410 mm print width and 75 m/min. Thanks to its inline finishing and embellishment capabilities, turnaround times can be further reduced while delivering high quality output.

The company also benefits from the fact that Canon’s LabelStream is the first digital press to have been awarded the Fogra Process Standard Digital (PSD) Print Check specification. The certification confirms that colour consistency, uniformity, detail sharpness and stability of print runs produced on the LabelStream 4000 comply with the requirements defined by Fogra PSD Print Check, and enables Oschatz Visuelle Medien to guarantee high quality and colour consistency for labels printed on a broad range of media. With the option to use the white inkjet channel, achieving white ink opacity of up to 80% and the possible extension with an orange channel, converters have access to more extensive application possibilities.

The LabelStream 4000 is the company’s fifth Canon investment, cementing its relationship with the solution provider. The new press is now installed in a hybrid configuration, including a flexo print unit, cold foiling and highly automated semi-rotary die-cutting in addition to the 5-color (CMYK+W) digital print unit, at the company’s 5,000 sqm production site alongside the two existing Canon Colorado 1640 and a further two Colorado 1650 wide format devices. Using these high-performance, UVgel printers, Oschatz Visuelle Medien has built itself a reputation as a leading supplier of digital print marketing applications, from point-of sale materials to artistic prints, for a range of clients in the arts, culture, retail, cosmetics and industrial segments.

Founded in 1922 as specialist photo laboratory, Oschatz Visuelle Medien now employs over 60 people in pre-press, creative print production, logistics and onsite installation and decoration. Its ability to offer outstanding printed applications and excellent customer service is dependent on the reliability of its production process.

Being able to provide its customers excellent service, investment in leading technology is crucial.  The CEO of Oschatz Visuelle Medien, Joel Oschatz, said: “We have always valued our strong partnership with Canon, which convinced us to extend our alliance into other markets. With our current fleet we print in various techniques onto a wide range of materials, from point of sale visuals to artistic prints.  LabelStream’s large application versatility, printing from self-adhesives to carton board, variable data printing capabilities and enlarged colour gamut will further support and broaden Oschatz’s flexible offering for a wide range of print services, meeting the demands for a higher frequency of short-run jobs, while accurately matching brand colours over a production run.”

Crit Driessen, VP and Head of Digital Packaging, Canon Production Printing, comments: “We are thrilled to strengthen our partnership with Oschatz Visuelle Medien with the newly installed LabelStream 4000 series. It is an important step for Canon towards a leading position in the label and packaging segment.
