Stages: when photography, music and print come together

Find out more about this unique visual archive of life behind the scenes of Roskilde Festival

For more than 25 years, renowned Danish photographer Søren Solkær has documented the artists, emotions and untold moments behind one of Europe's most iconic music festivals. In summer 2026, that archive takes centre stage in Stages, a monumental outdoor photography exhibition in the heart of Copenhagen.

Featuring 64 large-format photographs displayed throughout the city centre, Stages offers a rare glimpse into the moments before the spotlight. Captured with unique backstage access at the Roskilde Festival, the exhibition reveals the human stories behind some of music's most celebrated artists.

Powered by the Colorado XL-series

The entire exhibition was produced on the Canon Colorado XL-series, combining exceptional image quality with the durability required for outdoor display.

The project demonstrates how advanced print technology can help creative professionals bring ambitious visual concepts to life without compromising on quality or scale.

A rare look behind the curtain

Since 1998, Søren Solkær has photographed artists backstage and on stage at the Roskilde Festival, creating a unique visual archive of life behind the scenes.

From emerging musicians to internationally renowned names such as Jack White, MØ, Dua Lipa and The Cure, his images capture moments of anticipation, reflection and focus that audiences rarely see.

Stages offers an honest perspective on the journey from private individual to public performer.

Photography on a monumental scale

Presented as part of Copenhagen Photo Festival, Stages transforms public space into an open-air gallery. The exhibition features 64 photographs, each approximately 1.5 x 2.7 metres, creating an immersive experience that brings visitors closer to the artists and stories behind the images.

Turning a creative vision into reality

Producing an outdoor exhibition of this scale requires every image to maintain its impact and quality when enlarged and displayed outdoors.

Working closely with Søren Solkær, Canon helped bring this vision to life through large-format print production that faithfully reproduces every detail and expression.

From exhibitions and cultural installations to retail environments and event graphics, Stages demonstrates how large-format print can transform spaces and create memorable experiences.
