Canon launches new series of productive, high-speed A4 MFDs for small and busy workgroups

United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, 01 September, 2011 – Canon, world leader in imaging solutions, today announced the launch of a new series of high-speed A4 multi-functional devices (MFDs) designed to increase productivity for small and busy workgroups. The imageRUNNER 1700 series offers high-speed A4 black-and-white printing as well as cost-monitoring and heightened security functionality, through Canon’s leading uniFLOW input and output management solution.

The imageRUNNER 1700 series offers high-performance printing with speeds of between 30 and 50 pages-per-minute and producing first copies in approximately five seconds or less.  The robust and compact design offers a maximum capacity of up to 2300 pages, meaning that busy workgroups can print longer without needing to refill the MFD.

The imageRUNNER 1700 series has a simple and intuitive design, with an improved user interface, a large 5.7 inch touchscreen display, intuitive menu selection and an interface which can be adjusted so that users can operate the device from any position.  Users can also print from and scan to USB memory sticks.

The new imageRUNNER 1700 series is perfect for balanced deployment where compact, black-and-white models are required for specific areas of an office alongside larger, departmental and organisation-wide MFDs. The new compact A4 series is also compatible with Canon’s eMaintenance and iWMC (iW Management Console), granting service providers and administrators easy access to real-time device performance information to maximise uptime and reduce the cost of ownership.

Embedded compatibility with uniFLOW ensures consistency with Canon’s imageRUNNER ADVANCE devices allowing users to print and collect documents from any networked multifunctional device with ‘My Print Anywhere’ functionality. Individual user authentication and Native Secure Print helps to keep business documents and information secure.  Compatibility with uniFLOW also helps IT managers to effectively manage the costs associated with print through client cost centres and detailed tracking and reporting.

Trevor Dodsworth, Product Marketing Manager, Business Imaging Group, Canon UK and Ireland says, “The market for A4 black-and-white devices grew 15 per cent during Q1 2011[1] compared to the same period last year. With the imageRUNNER 1700, Canon is entering a new and rapidly growing sector for high-speed devices. We have listened to our customers and have developed the new series to provide a choice of three fast, reliable and feature-rich devices. The devices are perfect for small and busy workgroups looking to increase productivity.”

The imageRUNNER 1700 series is also Energy Star* certified, using as little as 1watt in sleep mode.

The imageRUNNER 1700 series – which includes the imageRUNNER 1730i, imageRUNNER 1740i and the imageRUNNER 1750i – also comes with optional compact and productive finishing capabilities including 50-sheet stapling and collation.

The imageRUNNER 1700 series will be available from October 01, 2011.
