What attracted you to Canon?
Initially it was the products and reputation of Canon as a major technology company which attracted me to apply. As I met people through the interview process I developed a good feeling about the culture. I was also attracted to the European headquarters because it has a mix of people from all over the world. Finally, I was excited by the role which offered me the opportunity to be involved in a broad range of activities within my area of expertise.
What do you do within Canon?
I work in our central Legal Department as a Legal Counsel. My role is to support our Business Imaging Group at a European level. One of my key responsibilities is to support the negotiation of contracts with large international customers, for example, for print solutions on a global level. This involves me working together closely with the Legal Counsel in each country to finalise the contracts. Another key part of my role is to support our Solutions Business Group regarding the software solutions we provide to our customers. Canon owns and produces software as well as partnering with other software providers. My role is to support the business with software distribution agreements for the use of this software and also advise on any other legal issues related to this. Another area which I support is the development of new solutions, for example, our new Consultancy Services business. I also support the business with a number of other initiatives like pan European Marketing and incentives programmes. I also advise on Competition law.
What do you enjoy about your role?
I really enjoy working with the business through the whole project lifecycle as this allows me to see tangible results when we close a deal or launch a new product. I work closely with the business and this enables me to build good relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. I also like the negotiation part of my role and love the challenge of coming up with new solutions to problems. Finally, I really enjoy working in the cosmopolitan environment of our the head office and and I've since made friends with people from many different cultures.
